Computed tomography is a medical imaging method used to produce sectional images with the help of X-rays. The patient is expected to lie still in the unit. A computed tomography scanner includes a rotating gantry where X-rays rotate around the part of the body to be tested. The machine, which is linked to a computer, rotates around the patient, taking pictures of one thin slice of tissue after another. This image can be recorded permanently on film.
